Jefferson Hill Sr., was the major force in establishing this branch of Meals on Wheels in July of 2003, when he saw an unmet need for this service in our two cities. “We started then with seven recipiens, and today serve over 50 meals daily.” Mr. Hill adds; “unlike some Meals on Wheels programs that provide meals only for senior citizens, this program is unique because there are no age restrictions. Some of our recipients are young or middle-aged adults who have medical problems, either temporary or permanent, that prevent them from cooking a hot meal.” Because the program has chosen not to limit meal delivery just to seniors, we are currently not receiving federal or state grants. Therefore, we rely on donations from the community to help defray the costs of this service. There is no paid staff, and everyone working in this program is a volunteer.
